About

IMG_0527Greetings!  I’m Sarah Orton Bowen.  On my blog, you’ll find items concerning religion and life.  For me, that covers the entire spectrum.

My work life includes many years in both the public and private sectors, including years as an owner of a flourishing business.  In college, I received a Master of Arts degree in Political Science and Economics, believing that an effective manner to solve long term problems was through the political sphere.

I am a member of a rural Methodist church and also a member of the Lutheran church where I was baptized, confirmed, and married.  Jesus leads all of us to be His disciples (Matthew 28:19).  I lead a meaningful life here in Iowa with my husband, Mike, where we enjoy the countryside and farm.

I’ve started this blog because of my love of theology.  Many years ago, I pursued this passion by attending Luther Seminary in St. Paul, MN, to find out if I was called to pursue the ministry.  I subsequently discovered that my calling was not as an ordained pastor.

My calling is to be married to my wonderful husband, and to follow God wherever He leads me.  Taking the giant leap towards faith is the ultimate release of the spirit.  Martin Luther described it as such:  “Faith is a free surrender and a joyous wager on the unseen, untried and unknown goodness of God”.

Being a disciple of Jesus Christ requires unreserved love and exchange with others.  This calling has led me many places, from Iowa to Colorado, and then back home to Iowa.  I have taken to writing children’s books, and am hoping to have my first two published soon.  They cover God’s earthly blessings and God’s blessings of our bodies.

My love of theology endures, and this blog will serve to share God’s word with others.  Discerning God’s call can be difficult, even for those close to God in their spirit.  “The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God.” (1 Corinthians 2:10)  For me, perceiving God’s calling is an ongoing part of my every day.

Come along for the ride and enjoy the work that God has called each one of us to lead!  I have a great love of God and life.  This love is reflected in my inner being, my writing, reading, cooking, quilting, and living.
